Understanding generative AI and its application to your legal team

GENERATIVE AI

Our workshops are designed to provide insights and guidance that will enhance your understanding of generative AI.

To leverage AI in legal practice effectively, it is crucial to increase your legal team's understanding of what these technologies entail, and to consider the legal risks and ethical considerations associated with data usage, privacy constraints and potential bias in AI systems. We have formulated an offering that may be delivered in either a single, or a series of workshops, geared towards developing a deeper understanding of generative AI operations and implications.

Our methodology

  • Business woman writing on sticky notes

    Theory meets practice

The workshops explore both theoretical and practical aspects of generative AI tools within legal frameworks. We will also showcase real use cases, providing insights into how legal practitioners presently utilise generative AI tools such as Chat GPT and CoPilot in their daily workflows. Additionally, a few of our experts will also analyse the reliability of the generated results, emphasising our commitment to promoting the responsible and effective use of generative AI tools.

  • Interactive in-person and online formats

Our workshops are highly interactive, offering participants the opportunity to actively take part and contribute. We are able to offer in-person or online training. Online workshops serve the purpose of delivering consistent learning experiences across all locations. The material will be presented by the facilitators with the aid of a PowerPoint presentation that will include various demonstrations/real use cases.

Programme and outcomes

The exact content, level and format of the offering are flexible, and will depend on your specific requirements. Subject to agreement, a single workshop, or a series of sessions may cover the elements outlined here.

  • The workshop series can be delivered in a manner that best suits your particular needs, based on your existing technology stack, your policy on the use of AI, and the level of sophistication of the trainees.

In order to understand how to structure and deliver the workshop(s) in the most effective manner, an introductory session is required. The remainder of the session(s) will then be adapted and agreed to arrive at a plan that suits your circumstances. It might not be necessary to include all elements listed below.

We will further discuss and agree on the time to be spent on each included element (indicative duration of workshop segments are included below) and the ideal delivery mechanisms (eg in one continuous workshop / segmented over time; in-person or online; dates etc).

Indicated duration: up to 60 minutes

  • A high-level overview of what generative AI is, how it works and what you can do with it in its current forms. This will be delivered in a non-technical, conversational style, and is targeted at legal professionals rather than technologists. We bridge the gap in understanding that might exist between various professionals, and offer a common language to enable greater collaboration between the various experts.

Indicated duration: up to 60 minutes

  • Given the extensive risks associated with irresponsible use of AI, it is advisable to include a segment on the risks and ethical considerations when using AI. We will touch on best practice within your organisation (based on your particular policy), or help you arrive at a decision on what your approach should be, depending on the circumstances.

We will also share insights regarding best practice elsewhere, and methods commonly employed to mitigate the risks.

    Indicated duration: 60 - 120 minutes

  • Delve into the applicable laws and regulation of AI as well as legal frameworks in other parts of the world.

    Indicated duration: 30 - 60 minutes

  • Unpack some common legal use cases of generative AI. This will be a demonstrative session aimed to provide a deeper understanding of how legal professionals integrate AI into their day-to-day operations.

The demonstration covers various aspects, including:

    • Summarising content such as legal cases

    • Searching across large volumes of data

    • Legal research

    • Generating legal advice

    • Generating templates and documents

    • Operational assistance eg automatic generation of meeting notes, inbox management

By delving into these specific use cases, participants gain practical insights into the ways AI is effectively utilised in the legal landscape, enhancing their understanding of its applications within daily workflows.

    Indicated duration: 120 minutes

  • In this section, and based on the learnings of the preceding sessions, we guide the conversation about what you should be thinking about to best equip your legal team to limit the risks while accessing the opportunities inherent in generative AI tools.

    Indicated duration: 60 - 120 minutes
